Part of the AIDA Symposium on ‘AI/ML cutting edge trends’ (AIDA AICET2025)
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Greece, 14-18 July 2025.
Scope
It seems that matter complexity is the necessary condition for life and intelligence (human or animal one). Social complexity is the basis of ‘social intelligence’ and heavily influence social organization. Human environment (particularly the man-made structures) are ever more complx. The 6th edition of the AI Mellontology (Futurology) Workshop will debate the the relation between matter and system complexity on one hand and AI, Intelligence, Life, Society and Environment on the other one. First the theoretical tools (systems, graph and network theory, dynamical/nonlinear systems and chaos) and their relation to complexity will be analyzed. The physical, chemical, biological and social roots of complexity will be debated. Then their relation to: a) life structure, c) biological neural networks, c) AI and artificial neural networks, d) social structure and evolution and e) environment is presented. System, network and matter complexity measures will be investigated and the Law of Complexity [1] will be presented and scrutinized. Measures of human intelligence and DNN ‘knowledge capacity’ will be overviewed to establish a relation to system complexity measures. Finally, philosophical issues related to life evolution-by-design are introduced. An overview of these topics can be found in book [1] and lecture [2].
Open questions to be debated
- Is matter complexity the sufficient condition for life and intelligence?
- Why biological, social and environment complexity ever increases (Law of Complexity). Is it against the second thermodynamic law?
- Does inorganic matter have complexity?
- Which are the physics roots of matter complexity?
- How can we measure ‘artificial intelligence’?
- How can we measure human intelligence and ‘animal intelligence’?
- What is ‘social intelligence’
- What is the relation between intelligence, biological homeostasis and systems stability?
- Do we move from Darwinian life evolution to life evolution-by-design?
